Many honked with a smile and a thumbs-up. One driver stopped in the middle of Main Street and voiced his anger at the scene. Either way, the women and men of Code Pink got a reaction, and if that was the goal, they succeeded on Friday.
Members say the goal goes beyond that, however. They wanted to convince women to vote and get involved in the political process.
The bright pink-clad group got a rise out of locals and tourists alike on a brief march in downtown.
"I support this primarily to get the vote out," said one marcher, Malinda Thompson, "to get women to vote."
As the group weaved past downtown businesses and bewildered eyes, members began chanting, "We're gonna vote George Bush right out of the house."
Walking north on Main Street, the group chanted on, "One, two, three, four, let's vote Bush right out the door."
Many drivers honked with signs of approval, while some did a double take and heckled the group of less than 20.
The marchers were unfazed in their approach, handing out pink pamphlets to the passersby.
"Top five reasons to give Bush a pink slip," the leaflet read.
It included the allegation that President Bush lied to Congress and the American public about the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
It also focused on Bush's alleged failures in domestic and foreign policy.
The five reasons highlighted on the leaflet included issues surrounding women's rights, jobs, the economy, environment and the lives lost in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Also affiliated with the march was the grassroots group, Mainstreet Moms Oppose Bush, which supports high voter turnout, particularly in key swing states for this coming presidential election.
The group's march ended at Highway 92 and Main Street where members remained for the rest of the afternoon, holding political signs urging those stuck in passing traffic to register to vote against Bush.
